Army: Pakistan continuing border fencing with Iran at fast pace

Talking to local media on Saturday, Major General Babar Iftikhar spoke about the situation, US military withdrawal from Afghanistan, tensions on Pakistan’s western border with Afghanistan and dealing with terrorist elements along the border.

He stressed: Pakistan closely monitors the developments in Afghanistan and will never allow its territory to be used against its neighbors and at the same time expects that Afghanistan will do the same.

Referring to the measures taken by the Pakistani security and law enforcement agencies to guard the common borders with neighbors, including Iran, the Pakistani military spokesman added: "We use modern systems to effectively control traffic on the common border."

"We have also upgraded the border management system with Iran, and in addition work to fence the Pakistan-Iran border was also being expedited," he added.

Last month Pakistani Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad said fencing work on joint border with the Islamic Republic of Iran is in full swing.

He added that so far, 44 percent fencing work on border with Iran has been completed while the whole border would be fenced by the end of 2021.

During his 11th official visit to Pakistan in November last year, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Tehran was satisfied with the actions of Pakistan and its army to ensure security and guard the common borders.
