TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian security official announced that freedom of Michael White, an American national who was jailed in Iran on security charges, thwarted the US officials' plots to use his possible death of a chronic disease to pressure the Islamic Republic.
"The intelligence obtained by the counter-espionage department of the intelligence ministry shows that some politicians in the US, including Brian Hook (the US Special Representative for Iran and Senior Policy Advisor to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo) intended to make the maximum political use of the death of Michael White due to a chronic disease against the Islamic Republic of Iran within the framework of a news bomb, but his freedom took the opportunity from them to try this inhumane behavior," the director-general of Counter-Espionage Department of the Intelligence Ministry said on Saturday.
He underlined the Iranian security and intelligence forces' maximum intelligence supremacy and vigilance to nip in the bud any anti-security moves by the hostile spy agencies.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Mousavi announced on Thursday that Michael White was released, adding that this is the sign of Islamic kindness.
He said that after coronavirus spread, according to the Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Seyed Ebrahim Rayeesi’s order, White was given furlough, but since he had no relative in Iran, he was handed over to the Swiss Embassy representing the US interests section in Iran.
He was thoroughly examined for COVID-19 symptoms and, after getting negative diagnosis, the freedom verdict was put into effect.
Meanwhile, Iranian scientist Sirous Asgari, who was illegally imprisoned in the US, arrived in Iran on Wednesday.Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister in an Instagram message had announced that a plane carrying the country's scientist who was illegally jailed in the US was heading towards Tehran.
Asgari, a 59-year-old professor of materials engineering who was acquitted in November 2019 on charges of stealing trade secrets related to his academic activities at Ohio State University, was arrested by the US Immigration Service for revoking his visa.
"Hello friends, good news, the plane carrying Dr. Sirous Asgari flew from America," Zarif wrote on his Instagram page.
In relevant remarks on Monday, Seyed Abbas Mousavi said Asgari's case is over.
