TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba in a phone conversation on Monday conferred on the latest developments in the fight against coronavirus and the Ukrainian plane incident in January.
During the phone conversation, the two high-ranking officials also exchanged views on the developments in bilateral ties between Tehran and Kiev.
The Ukrainian airliner was struck by a missile inadvertently on Jan. 8 shortly after it left Tehran en route to Kiev. Iran admitted it had shot down the Ukraine plane in error. All 176 people onboard, including nationals of five foreign states of Canada, Ukraine, Sweden, Afghanistan and Britain, lost their lives.
The General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces said in a statement that the Ukrainian Boeing 737 plane was shot down as a hostile object due to human error at a time of heightened US threats of war.
In separate phone conversations on Sunday, Zarif had also discussed the latest developments in the region and fight against coronavirus with his Omani and Iraqi counterparts.
During the phone talks, Zarif exchanged views with Yusuf bin Alawi and Mohammed Ali al-Hakim on bilateral relations, felicitating the neighboring states on the start of the holy month of Ramadan.
The Iranian top diplomat and al-Hakim also reviewed the political situation in Iraq.
Zarif had also on Saturday, in a phone conversation with his Qatari counterpart discussed the latest developments in Afghanistan.
During the phone talk, Zarif and Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani exchanged views on Afghanistan as well as Iran’s efforts to help the political agreement and formation of a pervasive government in the war-hit country.
Also, late on Sunday, Zarif and his UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdullah ben Zayed in a phone conversation reviewed bilateral relations and the latest developments in the region.
During the phone talks, Zarif and Sheikh Abdullah explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating the mutual cooperation between the two countries in different fields.
The two sides also agreed to share their experiences in the ongoing anti-coronavirus campaign.
Zarif, for his part, felicitated his Qatari counterpart and the country’s government and nation on the start of the holy month of Ramadan.
